Throughout his life, Dr. J. Gordon Christensen amassed an impressive collection of fine art, which he has gifted to the City of Imperial to share on his behalf. Originally focused on Nebraska landscape artists, he later expanded to include still life works and 19th century portraits.
Dr. C, as he is affectionately known, was the elementary vocal music teacher as well as head organist, director of music, choir director and bell choir director at Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial from 1968 to 2009, when he "retired" from teaching and moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa to become the organist and music director at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He has since retired (again) from that position, but still plays the piano for anyone who will listen, and enjoys some of his most favorite art in his home.
CCAAC is working with the City of Imperial to document and determine storage and curation of the collection. The colorful banner on our home page is from a piece in the collection Drama of Source by Jan Kunc, of Lincoln, NE.
While we work toward a permanent place to display Dr. C.'s collection, please enjoy a few of his pieces
